About Me...
Welcome to MarcusShepard.com, my official homepage. I am Dr. Marcus C. Shepard. I am a tenured professor who studies communication, identity and diversity as they are heard within soul music and discussed by multiracial communities.
A graduate of USC's Annenberg School of Communication & Journalism with a doctorate in Communication, I also graduated from Northwestern University with a B.A. in Commuication where I also helped co-found the first soul and gospel a cappella group Soul4Real. At Northwestern, I merged my love for singing soul music with my academic interests and began studying how neo-soul music intersects with identity.
I currently co-host the bi-weekly podcast The BackBeat with my friend and doctoral candidate Kyera Singleton.
